To make sure of there correct reading it's best to calibrate' regularly to test for complete accuracy you don't want to overdose your plants with nutrients lock up, or burned. It is best to use distilled water to use when calibrating nutrient solutions use two types of pH buffering solutions 4.0 and 7.0 these solutions are the ideal standard factory calibrated solutions to use. Some companies claim to use the 7.0 pH buffering solution only. I found out that two is better than one when getting the correct calibration slope' to be obtained this could.
Step 1. Rinse your electrode with distilled water shake off excess water.
Step 2. Calibrate with the 7.0 buffering solution followed by the 4.0 buffering solution: Immerse the electrode of an inch. Exceeding the depth could permit the sample solution to weep back into the electrode itself resulting in inaccurate readings. The 7.0 solutions is the first reading immerse the probe for at least 2 minutes before adjusting making sure it reads at 7.0.
Step 3. Repeat the same procedures to the 4.0 solution wait for the meter to come to a stop at 4.0.
Step 4. Remove the electrode from the pH buffering solution and rinse with distilled water and store in a properly storage solution' this will prolong your electrode.
Step 5. Number one common mistake when using an electronic pH meter before pH measuring ensures that the nutrients have been stirred up very well especially if pH UP and Down are used and make sure the sample container is clean before adding nutrients this could effect the reading always make sure you wait for the final value when reading takes place. Hanna combo pH, EC/PPM is a very good meter.
